About Canvo™
Canvo™ is a mix of
cotton and polyester. Compared to polyester, Canvo™ provides a superior camping experience. The material breathes so the tent does not become humid, it’s quieter in the wind, and it’s more durable. Canvo™ is commonly used for tents in Europe and Japan. It is used less commonly in North America due to the cost. Polycotton tents provide a more comfortable camping experience. They breathe to release humidity and insulate to keep in warmth. Polycotton tents are also durable, have a more natural hand feel, and are quiet in the wind. DOD uses polycotton that is 60-70% polyester, 30-40% cotton.
As a mix of synthetic and natural fiber - polycotton possesses the best characteristics of both. Synthetic tents don’t breathe, so they become humid when occupied overnight. And synthetic fabrics tear and melt more easily than natural fabrics. Synthetics have almost no ability to hold warmth. At the other end of the spectrum, all-cotton tents are comfortable, durable, and hold warmth but they are heavy and bulky. They also require treatment to achieve waterproofness. Polycotton tents are comfortable, durable, waterproof, and hold warmth without being heavy and bulky.
Pros
Breathability: Polycotton tents breathe. Humidity, stickiness, condensation forming on the walls and a tent and dripping on you every time the tent moves, all make for a less comfortable camping experience. Polycotton lets the moisture escape so tents don't get humid.
Temperature Regulation: The cotton in polycotton tents helps to regulate internal temperature. These tents stay warmer when it's cold outside, and have ample vents for circulation when it's warm out. This provides a more comfortable camping experience in a wider range of temperatures.
Durability and Strength: Polycotton tends to be more durable and tear-resistant than polyester or nylon. This makes polycotton tents more resilient to wear and tear, extending their lifespan with proper care.
UV Resistance: Polycotton fabric generally offers better resistance to UV degradation than polyester or nylon. This means the tent fabric is less likely to weaken or fade over time due to sun exposure.
Reduced Noise: Polycotton fabric doesn't rustle in the wind as much as synthetic fabrics. The result is a quieter and more peaceful environment inside the tent, especially in windy conditions.
Aesthetic and Feel: Polycotton tents have a more natural fabric feel and a less 'plasticky' appearance compared to synthetic tents.
Fire Resistance: Polycotton chars rather than melts when exposed to fire, which can be a safety advantage. Polycotton tents are less likely to drip molten fabric in the event of a fire, unlike purely synthetic materials.

This tent layout is perfect for big families or groups—each couple gets privacy, and there’s still a communal area. My only complaint is the size and weight when packed because it comes in so many parts; it’s not the easiest to transport. That said, once we set it up, it provided all the comfort we could ask for. Would recommend!

Absolutely amazing!
We took the Chimaki Village setup for a weekend camping trip with friends, and it was a game-changer. The separate sleeping tents provided privacy while the central covered area gave us a perfect place to gather, cook, and relax. It’s super durable, easy to set up, and the quality of the polycotton material is fantastic—definitely built to last. Highly recommend for group camping!

Camping just got upgraded! The design is both functional and stylish—our setup looked like a mini glamping resort! Each couple had their own cozy sleeping space, and the central area was ideal for hanging out. It’s rare to find a tent system this high quality and well-thought-out. Highly recommend it!

Good Idea, but Complicated Setup
The design is creative and functional, but the setup was frustrating and took much longer than expected. Once it’s up, it works well, but not ideal for quick trips.
